0.5-Inch Core Ribbons: The Ultimate Guide for Desktop Printers
When most people think of Thermal Transfer Ribbons (TTR), they picture large, heavy rolls on a standard 1-inch (25.4mm) cardboard core.
But what if you are using a compact desktop printer like the Zebra TLP2844, ZD420, TSC TTP-244CE, or a mobile Bluetooth printer? Those industrial rolls simply won’t fit. You need a 0.5-inch (12.7mm) core.
Many generic suppliers ignore this market because slitting these tiny rolls requires specialized equipment and precision. At Only Imaging, we have dedicated slitting lines just for desktop and mobile applications.
The Engineering Challenge: Precision Notches
A 0.5-inch core isn’t just a smaller cardboard tube. Most desktop printers require specific notches (cut-outs) on the sides of the core to lock into the printer’s drive gears.
-
The Failure: If you buy a cheap ribbon with misaligned notches, the ribbon will slip, causing your printer to report a “Ribbon Out” error even when the roll is full.
-
Our Solution: We use high-precision core-cutting machines to ensure every notch matches the OEM specifications perfectly.
Length Options: 74m vs. 110m
Desktop printers have very limited internal space.
-
74 Meters: The standard length for Zebra desktop printers.
-
110 Meters / 90 Meters: Used for TSC and other compact models.
-
Only Imaging provides all lengths in Wax, Wax/Resin, and Resin formulations.
Tension Control
Because the core is so small, the film is wound much tighter. Poor tension control during manufacturing will cause the ribbon to wrinkle instantly when you start printing. Our micro-slitting technology guarantees flat, wrinkle-free printing from the first label to the last.
Conclusion: Don’t Get Stuck
Finding high-quality resin ribbons on a half-inch core shouldn’t be a headache. Whether you need 100 rolls for your office or 10,000 rolls for your retail chain, we have you covered.
