Wide Web Thermal Ribbons (160mm – 220mm) for Drum & Pallet Labels
Most shipping labels are 4×6 inches, which means a standard 110mm ribbon works perfectly. But what if you are printing A4-sized Pallet Labels or massive Chemical Drum Hazard Labels (GHS)?
You step into the world of Wide Web Printing. Using 6-inch (168mm) or 8-inch (220mm) industrial printers like the Zebra ZT620, ZT421, or Sato CL6NX requires a very different class of Thermal Transfer Ribbon.
The #1 Problem: Wrinkling (Diagonal Lines)
When a ribbon is 220mm wide, it becomes incredibly difficult to keep it perfectly flat across the printhead.
-
The Symptom: You get unprinted diagonal white lines across your barcode.
-
The Cause: Uneven tension. If the ribbon is wound slightly looser on the left side than the right side during manufacturing, it will sag and fold over itself as it passes through your printer.
The Only Imaging Solution: Dynamic Tension Control
You cannot slit a 220mm ribbon on a cheap machine. At Only Imaging, our wide-web slitting machines use Dynamic Tension Sensors that adjust the pull force continuously across the entire width of the Jumbo roll. This guarantees a perfectly flat, cylinder-like roll that will not warp or wrinkle in your 8-inch printer.
High Opacity for Large Areas
Chemical and pallet labels often have large, solid black blocks of text or hazard symbols.
-
A cheap wide ribbon will leave “pinholes” (white specks) in these solid areas.
-
We recommend our Premium Wax/Resin (Wide Web Edition), formulated specifically with high-flow ink to provide deep, solid black coverage over massive print areas.
Conclusion: Go Wide With Confidence
Don’t let wrinkling slow down your logistics line. If you are operating wide-format thermal printers, you need ribbons manufactured to industrial tolerances.
