When people think of “Hot Stamping,” they think of shiny metallic gold. But some of the most luxurious packaging designs today don’t shine at all. They use Pigment Foil.
Pigment foil essentially acts like “Dry Paint.” It transfers a solid, opaque layer of color onto the paper or plastic, without the metallic reflection.
Go to a high-end cosmetic counter. You will see matte black boxes with glossy black stamped logos (or vice versa).
The Process: Stamping Only Imaging Matte Black Pigment Foil onto a glossy black cardstock.
The Result: A subtle, tactile contrast that screams high-end sophistication.
Printing “White Ink” on dark paper (like Kraft or Black card) is notoriously difficult. Offset white ink often looks gray and translucent.
The Solution: White Pigment Foil.
Because foil sits on top of the paper, it provides 100% opacity. It is the whitest white you can achieve on dark stock.
Pigment foil isn’t just for pretty boxes. It is the industry standard for printing expiration dates on plastic bags and PVC cards.
Hot Stamping Coders: Many food lines use simple hot stamp coders.
Why Pigment Foil? It bonds aggressively to PE/PP plastic films and resists rubbing off during shipping. It is cheaper and simpler than TTO for low-speed lines.
Pigment foil gives you the opacity of screen printing with the speed and precision of hot stamping. Whether for luxury design or industrial coding, it’s an essential tool.
