In the electrical and telecom industries, identifying cables is not optional—it’s a safety standard (ANSI/TIA-606-B).
The most common label used is the “Self-Laminating” Wire Marker. This label has a white printable area and a clear “tail” that wraps around the wire, covering the printed text to protect it.
But here is the catch: You must print on the Vinyl surface before it gets wrapped. If you use the wrong ribbon, the text will smear before you can even wrap it.
Wire markers are made of soft, flexible vinyl so they can curve around thin wires.
The Challenge: Vinyl contains plasticizers that can “soften” standard ink over time.
The Solution: You need a Full Resin Ribbon specifically designed for Vinyl.
Our Cable-Grade Resin is engineered for:
Instant Cure: The ink dries instantly so it doesn’t smear when the technician handles the label to wrap it.
Plasticizer Resistance: It won’t fade even after years of contact with the vinyl material.
Heat Resistance: Electrical panels get hot. Our resin withstands temps up to 150°C.
For industrial wiring, flame retardancy is key. When paired with the right label stock, Only Imaging Resin Ribbons help you achieve UL 969 and UL 224 compliance, ensuring the label doesn’t become a fire hazard.
Some applications use “Heat Shrink Sleeves” instead of labels. Printing on flattened heat shrink tubing requires a ribbon with excellent flexibility. If the ink is too brittle, it will crack when the tubing is shrunk with a heat gun.
Recommendation: Ask for our Flexible Resin Series.
An electrician’s time is expensive. Going back to re-label a panel because the ink faded is a waste of money. Do it right the first time with industrial-grade consumables.
